Lesson plans

Children’s group of the didactical course at the Folkwang Hochschule Essen

The expanded on-line version of Recorder Magic offers

Lesson plans Version 1 for younger children

Lesson plans Version 2 for older children

All lesson plans are protocols derived from actual delivered lessons.

Version 1 has its origins in the experience with a group of first-graders and pre-school children during the beginning phases of Recorder Magic at the Meistersinger Conservatory in Nuernberg. Because of close collaboration with the department for early childhood music education, Version 1 of Recorder Magic is heavily influenced by it and incorporates many playful elements that accommodate the needs of young children.

Version 2 is geared toward somewhat older children (1st and 2nd grade) and was created by working with children’s groups within the framework of the didactical course offered at Folkwang Hochschule in Essen. The succession of new material is faster; however, the playful elements are still present in their rudiments, even though shortened or varied to match the children’s age better.

An overview at the beginning of each version includes topic and contents of the lessons.

Each lesson plan lists the topic, contents, aims, and materials. Items used in every lesson, such as Tiddelydoo puppet, chairs, a large music stand, a table for storing recorders etc., are not listed here in order to protect the clarity of the text. Content-related information is only given in the text body.
